She's growing!

I'm not one to post these on facebook, so if you follow my blog, you get to see them! Our little girl is growing! It's a girl! When I went to church on Sunday I had a few people tell me, "Wow, you're finally showing!" It only took 24 weeks! My doctor says I should start seeing the pounds pack on in the next few weeks, which I am a little anxious about, but as long as that means our little girl is healthy and getting everything she needs, I am happy!

Here's a pic at 15 weeks:
20 weeks:
And Ben took the last pic for me on Sunday at 24 weeks. Only 16 weeks until she's here! I am so excited to meet her and see what she looks like. Will she have red hair like Ben? Will she have curly hair like me? In the next few weeks we'll be moving into a bigger apartment and I can start getting her room set up! So far we have a crib, a dresser, a rocker/glider, and a really cute ladybug crib bedding set. I've heard different things about the crib bumper. An article I read said that they can possibly be unsafe. Does anyone have any insight into that? I don't want to put it on the crib if it might be a hazard for the baby. Thanks everyone for your love and support!

  1. Please girlfriend, you don't look prego. :) just your boobs are bigger. :) hehe. You are so tall and thin.....be grateful. You will be able to wear maternity soon enough. The longer you hold off...the sooner normal clothes go back on. :) As for bumpers....I heard they were dangerous because kids can step on them and get out of the crib....if that is the case...just take it out when she gets older and can pull herself up. I have always used one. :) Miss ya!

  2. I was wondering if you were ever going to post the gender! I keep hoping I'll see you at church, but no luck :( I didn't start showing with my first until I was almost 30 weeks (some of that was because of clever wardrobe choices, but I had reasons for not wanting to seem too pregnant). As for the crib bumper, we didn't use one until our kids were able to roll over on their own and had the neck strength to lift their heads - I think the danger is that they could get mashed up against it and not be able to breath. We never really put out kids in a crib until they were about 6 months anyway since it was easier to have them in a bassinet by our bed for night feedings - and by 6 months they can pretty much move where they want.

  3. Hey good lookin'! :) I am excited to see your cute ladybug crib set! We kept Camille in our room until she was 7 weeks, then we moved her to her room and crib. But we have always had the bumpers on her crib... I heard they could be a danger for suffocation. But these days what isn't a "danger" for kids! I mean me and my 4 siblings all survived with bumpers (and other things that are now considered unsafe). You are a smart girl. Go with your gut and the Spirit. If you feel safe with bumpers go for it, if not don't. And either way is totally fine. :)

  4. I don't know a thing about bumbers, but I'm so excited for you!! I can't wait to see what she looks like either. And I think the longer you go without looking pregnant the better, I hope to stay as lean as you when I'm pregnant.

You don't post on Facebook much so I thought i would reply to your blog post! You look soo great!! I knew you would take a while to show because you are so tall and thin but it sounds like your baby is growing perfectly! I'm so excited for y'all that you are having a girl!! They are soo fun :) ...Bayleigh is 7 1/2 weeks old (seems like time is FLYING!) and getting chunkier by the day :) ...I hope everything countinues to go smoothly for you! It's such an amazing feeling so savor it because you will forget what it feels like after she is born! I can't even remember and it was only 2 months ago haha....as for the bumpers, im sure you will figure out what kind of sleeper she is and figure out if you should use them! Bayleigh scoots all over the place and flips her head back and forth when she is trying to go to sleep or wake up so I prob won't use them so she doesnt suffocate! I would love to keep in touch with you! My # is 512 650 5898 -- text me sometime!
    Love,

    1. We started using the bumpers wants our baby started rolling around. He would wake him self up hitting his head against the bars so this was necessary to keep him asleep while he rolled back and forth in his sleep. I read the same things you did about bumpers, but we just kinda followed our gut on it. Our baby got pretty mobile at about 4 1/2 months. As for your pictures, you look great! You can't even tell you are pregnant.=)

  7. Yay! You look great Elena! I am so excited!!! We use bumpers and never had a problem but I agree you just have to do what you think is best. Once you baby is able to roll (and get close to the bumper) she will most likely be able to turn her head and be able to breathe but Mommy knows best! I hope we get to see you before too long!

  9. I know you keep hearing it but you look amazing!! I'm so excited for you guys! And can't wait to meet her! Does she dance around like crazy or is she more mellow? Time is just flying by!

As for bumpers, the official recommendation is not to ever use them. Initially because of suffocation hazards, then when the baby is mobile, using them to aid in escaping the crib and falling. And of course the suffocation hazard remains as well.

We chose not to use them, but MOST, if not all, of my friends seem to use them. The added cuteness just wasn't worth the extra worry to me :) If you do use bumpers just do a safety check and make sure they are always secure and sweet girl can't wiggle inbetween the bumper and the bars.

You've got a ton of great advice here, and definitely go with what you're comfortable with. I was tempted to buy some when we moved Molly to the crib because she always squishes herself right up against the crib slats, and I thought there was no way that was comfortable! Lol!

    Ps. Ladybug print sounds adorable!!
